But work as a consulting historian was unsatisfying, with its “days of interviewing to get a three-day job.” After a stint working for the National Endowment for the Humanities, he decided to start American History Workshop ( Since that January day at Sturbridge, first as a historic interpreter and later as a curator, Rabinowitz has dedicated himself to conveying the stuffitude of history. One of his first completed projects was designing the “Cranberry Bog” at Ocean Spray’s Cranberry World. He quit for more project-driven work, consulting for small museums. In 1975, he went back to Harvard and finished his Ph.D., but was again bored by the inertia of academic life, with its endless meetings and bureaucracy. Rabinowitz spent six years at Old Sturbridge Village, working his way up to director of education. Of this visceral learning experience, he says, “it was a revelation that the world had this physicality to it, this materiality to it, this stuff-this stuffitude.” His years of reading primary documents had never impressed on him such a basic reality of early American life. ![]() Wearing loafers and chinos, he was unprepared for the cold he encountered inside the buildings of the historic village. Rabinowitz remembers his visit, on a Sunday in January 1967. “That kind of learning,” he says, is what he saw at Old Sturbridge Village. “She had such extraordinary knowledge in her fingertips,” he tells the now-rapt crowd of college students. It wasn't an industrial product the way it is today in, you know, Frank Perdue’s world.” We don't know that chicken was once, not just organic, but it actually had variability. It’s disappeared because our lives are so different. “I realized,” he says, “that we don’t have so much of the knowledge of the past. Chicken back then, he discovered, differed in flavor and quality from season to season, and this “challenged the cook’s ingenuity” in a way that today’s supermarket chicken does not. ![]() “What time of year are we talking about?” she responded. He asked her how his grandmother had prepared chicken during the family’s first years in America. “I had an instinct,” he says, “that there was more to the way in which history should be studied than could be found simply in libraries, in written documents.”Īn example of such learning came to him during an extensive oral history interview he once conducted with his mother, a Jewish immigrant from Poland. Rabinowitz says he couldn’t have articulated it at the time, but as a stilted grad student in the winter of 1967, he had a sense that something was missing from his education. His recent blockbuster exhibition for N-YHS, “New York Divided: Slavery in the Civil War” won him critical acclaim, as well as contracts to develop four new exhibitions, including “French Founding Father: Lafayette’s Return to Washington’s America,” which continues through the summer, and “Grant and Lee,” which opens in the fall. Through his company, American History Workshop, Rabinowitz has created more than five hundred successful and innovative history programs at sites such as the New-York Historical Society (N-YHS), the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, and Federal Hall, just to name a few in the New York area. Instead, the instinct that drove him away from the Ivory Tower and toward the mock village from the 1830s guided him over the next forty-one years to a celebrated career as one of America’s most respected developers of museum exhibitions. To ensure reliability, purchase Toyota part 00272-SLLC2 Super Long Life Cool. It also helps to keep rubber hoses and lines from deteriorating on the inside like on this T100. Your vehicle deserves only genuine OEM Toyota parts and accessories. Check this out for an example.īeyond keeping the engine’s temperatures in check, coolant protects the internal passages of the engine from rusting and corroding out. It also has the advantage of forming readily identifiable deposits when it leaks, making find a leak easier. This coolant is premixed with water and doesn’t require dilution. This is pink in color and has a 100,000 mile initial replacement interval, followed by 50,000 miles thereafter. This provides freeze protection below -60 degrees (if you see anything close to this temperature you should leave your car running all the time).Īfter 2004, Toyota and Lexus switched to Super Long Life Coolant. CARspec recommends mixing your Long Life Coolant in a 60% coolant 40% water ratio. Dilution is important to get right – too much coolant reduces the ability to cool the engine, too little makes the coolant more likely to freeze in the coldest parts of the winter. Because it comes in a pure concentrate, it must be diluted with water before you put it in your engine. Concentrated is more economical, so that's what I get and mix with distilled water. Before 2004 for most models, Toyota used a red-dyed, concentrated coolant with a 30,000 mile change interval, called Long Life Coolant. Why pay $37 for Toyota Red when you can get Beck/Arnley or Pentofrost A1 or some other brand for $25 or even less? Check the MSDS and see for yourself. Follow the money, and you will find the tricksters! Just use a HOAT coolant, and you will have exactly what you need. It's a marketing gimmick designed to burrow deeper into your wallet like a blood-sucking parasite. They do this on purpose to control you and manipulate you into being freaked-out about other colors so that you will buy their over-priced coolant. The coolants are the same, but the color dye is different. Car company B sells another that is Y color, etc. Car company A sells their own brand of coolant that is X color. Other Asian companies may use Blue, Green, or whatever. The Toyota Pink is not backwards compatible for the older years, like our Camrys. The Toyota Red is forward compatible to the newer years as well. Toyota uses Red (concentrated) or Pink (diluted). The colors are ONLY for ease in identification of the coolants because certain auto manufacturers used certain colors. I confirmed this with a Beck/Arnley specialist who told me that their four colors (Red, Pink, Blue, Green) were actually the exact same thing (two are concentrates and two are diluted with a slightly different additive). Do you think your Toyota can sense what color dye is in your coolant? Huh? I personally don't mix the colors, but if you do it's OK as long as the ingredients are the same. As long as the ingredients are the same, that is what counts. There may be others, but as long as it's a phosphated OAT (HOAT) with no silicates, no borates and no amines, you are good to go. There are a couple of non-Toyota coolant brands that I know of that fit the bill: Beck/Arnley, Pentofrost A1 (Made by a German company named Pentosin), Zerex Asian Vehicle formula (but I can't find it in concentrated only pre-mix). BUT, it does not have to be the Toyota red or pink coolant, as long as the ingredients are the same. This means that most coolants on the shelf at your local auto parts store will NOT fit the bill. ![]() The coolant should be made out of ethylene glycols, phosphates (inorganic acid salts) with Organic Acid Technology (which makes it a Hybrid Organic Acid Technology or "HOAT"), no silicates, and no borates or amines (2-EHA is an amine). I came to the conclusion that there is a specific type of coolant that the Asian engineers decided works best in our cars. I researched this almost an entire day a while back. Perhaps I can help with the coolant issue. Someone posted this on ToyotaNation and thought it gave some insight to the coolant madness in today's cars, especially Toyota: ![]() ![]() ![]() (23−25) This photosensitization can proceed in two ways: using charge-transfer complexes or through aromatic photosensitizers. ![]() One of them is the utilization of photosensitizers, compounds that absorb in the near-UV or visible-light region and can efficiently decompose iodonium salts with superacid generation. (15) However, there are more successful approaches to iodonium salt photosensitization. There have been attempts to improve spectral properties by adding single-electron-rich substituents in position 4 of aryl rings (such as alkyl or methoxy groups), but it red shifts the absorption only slightly (10–20 nm in most cases). (22) This raises the need to improve the absorption properties of the initiator to make them active at longer wavelengths. (20) In addition, new applications, especially three-dimensional (3D) printing, require the absorption of visible light. (21) No efficient light sources emit in this region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Currently, commercially available salts do not absorb above 300 nm. However, diaryliodonium salts show poor absorption properties at longer wavelengths. However, the use of asymmetrical salts is desirable when substrates for their synthesis are expensive, but in more cases, symmetrical salts are preferred. (4) In the enolate reaction, more electron-deficient aryl moieties can be selectively transferred, and in cross-coupling reactions, the electron-rich ring is preferably transferred. The difference in structure leads to unique behavior during the course of the reaction. (14) They can be used as symmetrical salts with both aryl substituents with the same structure or as asymmetrical salts where the structure of each aryl substituent is different, especially as one ring has an electron-rich substituent and another has an electron-deficient substituent. (12) Despite the arylation reaction, they can be used in the dearomatization of phenols (13) and as benzyne precursors. ![]() (3) They found applications in reactions such as α-arylation of carbonyl compounds (7,8) and arylation of arenes, (9) alkynes, (10) and alkenes (11) in the presence of metallic catalysts as well as arylation of heteroatom nucleophiles. ![]() In organic synthesis, they are most often used as arylation agents. The research described represents a significant advance in the development of iodonium salts. In addition, it was possible to study in detail substituent effects on the properties of the new iodonium salts due to the easily modifiable structure of the benzylidene chromophore. They can be used in advanced applications such as three-dimensional (3D) VAT printing using an LCD printer. Thus, they can act as one-component photoinitiators even in visible light, where common diaryliodonium salts remain inactive. New symmetric iodonium derivatives effectively photoinitiate cationic polymerization using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with no additives. Such an improvement ensures excellent absorbing properties in the UV-A and visible range, representing a significant advance over the commonly used diaryliodonium salts. This is the first example of the use of a double bond in the structure of a symmetric iodonium salt. We present a group of seven new advanced symmetric iodonium salts bearing two benzylidene-based chromophores. ![]() ![]() Safety features that are shared between the two vans are rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, cruise control with a speed limiter, forward collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention detection and autonomous emergency braking ( AEB).
